The Druid - #2
The wolf's howl echoed into the night, finally reaching the intended ears of its master. Its call was one tinged with fear and despair.
The air hung heavy with a dark ominous gloom that seeped down to the bones, companied by the hellish red glow of the moon. All of it reflecting the evil scent of blood that seemed to permeate the world.
Another howl.
He snapped out of his dreamlike trance. The elf stood up on his perch, raising his ears to the call of his faithful companion. "I hear you dear friend."
He leapt off the boulder down onto the clearing and sped off into the trees.
Indeed something was afoot. A deafening silence suffocated the air. Neither frog nor cricket chirped. Owls did not hoot and the trees did not whisper. The only sound that broke the deathly quiet was the incessant howling of the wolf.
He sped through the trees silent as shadow and swift as a hawk. The call of the wild beckoned. The woods of
Vilsrough was in danger.
"Wait for me dear friend. I'm almost there."
He pulled out his holy symbol and chanted prayers to the lady of the woods. The symbol glowed a bright green, streaked with silver. The glow intensified to a brilliant white as his prayer ended.
He leapt into the trunk of a huge oak tree, disappearing into a magical portal. Upon the tree bark, was left a slight rippling mark. All that remained of his presence.
The wolf went silent as it sensed its master's approach. It loped down to a tree close by, circling around the tree impatiently.
He finally stepped out of the tree, leaving upon its bark rippling marks. The only sign of his spell.
The wolf snarled and stared up to the north, its nose scrunged and the hairs on its neck standing on ends. The elven druid's gaze followed. Miles away, dark clouds loomed.
"Something wicked this way comes. Warn our brothers dear friend. I see darkness approaching." The elf's eyes glazed over and silvery green glows enveloped him. Bones cracked and limbs contorted with loud sickly crunches as he slowly transformed.
Within moments a wolf stood proud where once was an elf. He grunted and set off at a run northwards. Meanwhile, his companion turned back and disappeared into the woods: Off to warn the denizens of the jungle.
